If you're in the US (or have been paying attention to the news at all), you've probably seen all of the insanity and uncertainty surrounding tariffs. We're keeping an eye on the news to try to keep up with what's going on and how it's going to affect us as a small business as well as you, our customers.
At the moment, as far as we are aware, our host Shopify is still collecting all duties and tariffs at checkout for customers outside of the US. However, there is a chance that when the package enters your country, additional tariffs and fees may be assessed. Unfortunately, there's nothing The Starlight Stitchery can do about that, as those tariffs are the customer's responsibility. We hope that you're not surprised by those fees, which is why we're letting you know this now!
The EU has also implemented their General Product Safety Regulation as of December 2024. What does this mean for US-based small businesses? Honestly, we're not entirely sure. Like most legislation, the GPSR is quite opaque and does not include explanations for what small online retailers like ourselves need to do to comply.
So, for the time being, The Starlight Stitchery will not be able to ship purchases to countries in the EU. Once there are clearer explanations for how this regulation affects us, we will revisit our policy.
We do still ship to other countries outside of the US (Canada, UK, Australia, etc).
And finally... pricing. Prices constantly shift as costs for manufacturing and shipping change, and for the most part we roll with the punches and try to absorb as much of the changes as we can.
At the moment, we aren't aware of any major price changes coming for the products we stock that are imported into the US. But with threats of trade wars looming, we want to make you aware of the possibility that prices for items may go up. This will all depend on our suppliers and how they manage any tariffs that may be assessed on their own imports from overseas. We will do our best to keep you updated as to price changes.
